Basic Packaging Specifications and Standards The following are the basic specifications and standards for the development, decoding, and utilization of Military Packaging requirements: This document outlines standard processes for the development and documentation of military packaging, as distinct from commercial packaging.
This standard covers methods of preservation to protect material against environmentally induced corrosion and asrm, physical and mechanical damage, and other forms of degradation during storage, multiple handling, and atsm associated with the military distribution system.
This standard provides the minimum requirements for military marking for shipment and storage.
ASTM D – 10 Standard Practice for Commercial Packaging
Additional marking astj be required by the contract or the cognizant activity. This specification is the new reference symbology standard for two dimensional 2D bar coding. This international Standard specifics a transfer d3951-0, syntax, and coding of messages and data formats when using high capacity ADC media between trading partners, specifically between suppliers and recipients, and where applicable, in support of carrier applications, such as bills of lading and carrier sortation and tracking; The data encoded pursuant to this International Standard includes: That which may be used in shipping, receiving, and inventory of transport units.
That which may be contained within supporting documentation, in paper or electronic form, related to unit asgm or transport packages.
That which may be used in the sortation and tracking of transport units. This International Standard does not supersede or replace any applicable safety or regulatory marking and labeling requirements.
This International Standard is to be applied r3951-10 addition to any other mandated labeling requirements. This specification is the new reference symbology standard for two-dimensional 2D bar coding.
ASTM-D3951, ADOPTION NOTICE (21 DEC 1990) [SUPERSEDING MIL-STD-1188A]
It specifies PDF symbology characteristics, data characteristics, data character encodation, symbol formats, dimensions, error correction rules, decoding algorithm, and a number of application parameters. This specification is the new reference symbology standard for linear and two-dimensional 2D bar coding. This International Standard specifies the minimum requirements for the design of labels containing linear bar code and two-dimensional symbols on transport units to convey data between trading partners; provides traceability of transported units via a unique transport unit identifier license plate ; provides guidance d39511-0 the formatting on the label of data presented in linear bar code, two-dimensional symbol, or human readable form; provides specific recommendations regarding the choice of linear bar code and two-dimensional symbologies, and specifies quality requirements; makes recommendations as to label placement, size, and the inclusion of free text and any appropriate graphics; provides guidance in the selection of the label material.
This American National Standard: This International Standard specifies the requirements for the bar code symbology known as Code 39; it specifies Code 39 symbology characteristics, data character encodation, dimensions, tolerances, decoding algorithms and astn parameters.
Bar Code Print Quality Documents: This guideline covers the optical characteristics of a printed bar code symbol. This documents shall be used with the appropriate application satm, or symbology specifications, or both, shall take precedence over this guideline.
It establishes procedures for measuring quality parameters of printed bar code symbols. This International Standard specifies the methodology for the measurement of the specific attributes of xstm code symbols; defines a method for evaluating theses measurements and deriving an overall assessment of symbol quality; gives information on possible cause of deviation from optimum grades to assist users in taking appropriate corrective action. This International Standard applies to those astj for which a reference decode algorithm has been defined, and which are intended to be read using linear scanning methods, but its methodology can be applied partially or wholly to other symbologies.
This practice establishes minimum requirements for packaging of supplies and equipment, exclusive of ammunition, explosives, or hazardous materials, as covered in Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use.
It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
